God is Enough
I know many of you are going through tough and difficult times. And this is why I believe God has me writing to bring comfort to your soul. You may not understand when things go wrong what is going on. You might even want to give up because life is too hard. Perhaps, you have just recently gone through a divorce, lost your home, job or loved ones and now nothing makes sense. But, I know that the strength you need is found in your relationship with God. Let me stop for a minute and make God more personal to you. King David, tells us God is our Shepherd and we shall lack nothing. I am amazed how David was in a dry mountainous wilderness place when he writes, “The Lord is my Shepherd and I shall lack nothing. Psalm 23:1 (CJB)” Everything David eyes saw was dry, hot and mountainous. I have seen the limestone mountains in Jerusalem and they seem to lack everything for life to survive. Yet, David said, I shall lack nothing. You cannot go by what you see going on right now in your life. You have to see what David saw that God is enough even in this dry, desert and dark place.
This reminds me of our friend JeanMarie, last week I told you how she lost one daughter physically and another daughter emotionally. Let me tell you how she handled losing her daughter Glenda at the age of 2. JeanMarie’s daughter Glenda died at 2 years old from a deadly disease. At the time JeanMarie was only 20 years old and lived with her mother-in-law who did not care for her at all. JeanMarie’s husband was away in the army and she lived with in-laws who did not like her and blamed her for the death of her daughter. This was not reasonable because in the 1950’s detecting life-threatening diseases in children were more difficult than it is today. You did not have the World Wide Web and internet to look up what the doctors were telling you and then get on an airplane to go to the best hospital and doctors in the country. You had to go by whatever the local doctor said and then try to nurse your children back to health. No one could have predicted JeanMaire’s daughter’s death. However, JeanMarie did tell me that she had a dream that her child was under water and could not breathe and then the next day her daughter Glenda died. How would you feel if someone blamed you for something you had no control over?
Anyway, God cared so much for JeanMarie that He warned her in a dream to prepare her for what would happen. I cannot imagine being 20 years-old and losing a child. You would think that JeanMarie would be angry with God. However, she was not. Instead she felt the presence of God with her even in the death and suffering of her child. Of course, she was hurt and sad; lonely and in despair. Not only did she have to deal with the death of her child, but the cruelty of her mother-in-law. Yet at 20 she was resilient and her faith was so strong that when she explained to me how she got through those tough times. She said, “Patricia, whatever you go through in life; always remember that God is enough!”
So I want to remind you of that today. God is enough! He is enough in the dry desert place you find yourself in. Maybe you cannot breathe and maybe you feel like you are under water with debt, broken relationships, disease and trials too hard to bear. But God is enough to sustain and provide for you. God blessed JeanMarie with 7 more children after Glenda died. And today she lives with the youngest daughter and son-in-law who serves the Lord in ministry and provides for her in her old age. God indeed was and still is enough!
