Winning The Battle: Be at Peace

Many of us wish for peace on earth, yet we have no peace with God. We have no peace with ourselves or with others. We struggle in our inner souls with how we are living and the problems we are facing. If we do not believe that God has any regard for our lives, our souls become restless.

So what does having peace really mean? When someone states, she is at peace with herself, what does that really mean? It is an inner contentment; serenity, or a peace of mind? It is all those things.

Peace of mind requires an inner contentment that through faith everything is going to be okay. The greater our faith the greater the peace we will have.

We quarrel and struggle trying to fix things, but there are some things that cannot be fixed by a word or money or another person. To truly have peace you need to stop quarreling with God. “Quit quarrelling with God. Agree with Him and you will have peace at last. His favor will surround you if you will only admit that you were wrong." Job 22:21, TLB

Peace is making things right with God. "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:1-2 KJV. Since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith in Jesus, we can have real peace with Him. He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5) It was for us, and not for Himself, that He suffered and died. He suffered in our stead. The pain, humiliation, and abuse that we deserve, He took upon Himself. Christ suffered the chastisement necessary to make us at peace with God, thereby saving us from our sins. So we should make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Jesus said that he left us peace as a gift. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

There are some things in your life that can only be fixed by the grace of God. Paul tells us through Jesus Christ, we can have peace with not only God, but with ourselves. This means that we are justified by faith to talk with the Father about our circumstances. We can take our concerns to Jesus. We can pray, keep quiet and rest on the fact that we have peace through Jesus Christ. We can have inner contentment and remain calm because we know that Jesus will work it out somehow.

To have peace your soul must become peaceful. When I am in an intense relationship with Jesus Christ I am able to remain content and no matter what the struggle is I remain at peace with my soul. I stay calm and I am content. However, the minute I get busy and draw away from God, instead of drawing closer when things in life are not going well, I become stress and irritated at life and my circumstances. I need to make sure that I never neglect my relationship with Christ. Christ brings me peace on earth through my world and in my heart.
I encourage you to continue to cultivate your relationship with Christ through prayer and reading of the Scriptures. You will find that God will sometimes give you an answer to the problem while you are reading and praying. It will be a timely Word that will bring you the peace that you need.

Start with reading the book of Psalms in the Bible to focus your prayers and the book of Proverb to give you the wisdom that you need. I am certain that sooner than later your peace will come.

May those who love you be secure and may there be peace within your walls and security within your home. For God will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord!

Love and for Him Only,
Pastor Tricia
