Winning the Battle of Life - How to be successful in a troubled world!

I recently told one of my children who was going through a tough time that, "Success is not measured by the things you have, but by the character of your heart." I believe that was straight from God. There are so many times that we compare ourselves to one another, but the Bible teaches us that we should not compare ourselves to each other. "Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else."
3 Ways to be successful:
1) Stop comparing yourself to someone else. Focus on your strengths. Write down the key strengths you have and focus on those. As we say in business, play to your strength. Then write down your weakness or things you need to improve. Work to make your weakness play with your strength, by working to improve them based on what you need not what someone else needs from you or what someone else has that you may admire. You have to love you before anyone else can truly love you, the only exception to that rule is God loves us in spite of how much we love ourselves. So work on acceptance of yourself and then remember your strength is the key to your destiny.
2) You need the Holy Spirit of God - the one who Jesus said would teach and instruct you. I call Him the "Knower", because the Holy Spirit is God and He is all-knowing, when I listen to the Holy Spirit He speaks to my heart, teaches me and then gives me wisdom to make the right decision. You really have to spend quiet time alone to listen to the Spirit within you. No one can do this. The world is full of voices, but there is only one true Voice and that is the Holy Spirit speaking to you about the plans that God has for your life. You have to know the Knower to be successful. I know you can look successful without having God or character, because you have a lot of beautiful things, but things (fine cars, large amount of funds, huge homes, etc) do not make you successful. Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Our Lord, Jesus the Messiah were all very successful, but their material things were not great nor were they millionaires/billionaires. Money is a tool to used to get things you need, but it is not the determiner of whether you are successful or not. Ask all those failed Senators, and Governors we have seen in the news lately.
My father recently went to be with the Lord, and I considered him to be successful, because he took care of his family and even in his death we did not have to take care of him. He loved us, cared for us, look after us and yet not one of us thought he was great because of the things he had.
3) Work steady - First you need to work! The Bible states, if a man is not willing to work, he does not get to eat. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 It also states, "Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper and be satisfied." Proverbs 13:4 (NLT). You need consistency and perseverance to be successful. How many times have you failed in your endeavors when you were learning how to do something (e.g,ride a bike, roller skate, play the piano, learn a foreign language, etc.) or when you were working on something that would change the world? Answer: Many times! Thomas Edison tried 40,000 prototypes and failed before he created a long-lasting incandescent light bulb. Many modern conveniences are the result of Thomas Edison’s ingenuity. Because of Jesus I am not sitting in the dark spiritually and because of Edison I am not sitting in the dark physically. Edison did amazing things simply by persevering. Persevere and don't quit! You will be successful, if you keep on trying!

However, you may need to get alone so you can think to get it done and you may have to change your environment. Most great things are achieved in the quiet peaceful hours of life, and in a peaceful place, not in the midst of chaos. Are you living a chaotic life? If you want to be successful you may just have to move and change your environment! It is God's still quiet voice that speaks to us and causes us to be successful. It is not the loud thunder but the simple falling of the rain that make things grow on earth. Find your quiet spot and work there for the good of this world and your success.

For His Glory;
Pastor Patricia
