2013 - The Year of Restoration and Recovery
Joel 2:25-26
- And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the
cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent
among you. Recently I was remembering my trip to Jerusalem in 2008. While I was in Israel, I visited Masada. Masada is on top of an isolated rock plateau (akin to a mesa) on the eastern edge of the Judaean Desert, overlooking the Dead Sea. The site of Masada was identified in 1842 and extensively excavated
between 1963 and 1965 by an expedition led by Israeli archeologist
Yigael Yadin. Many of the ancient buildings have been restored from their remains, as have the wall-paintings of Herod's two main palaces, and the Roman-style bathhouses that he built. The synagogue, storehouses, and houses of the Jewish rebels have also been identified and restored. I took the picture on the left while I was in the Synagogue. It is a picture of ancient art and cups that were restored. Yadin went through great pains to restore a precious piece of Biblical history. Inside the synagogue, an ostracon bearing the inscription me'aser cohen (tithe for the priest) was found, as were fragments of two scrolls; parts of Deuteronomy 33–34 and parts of Ezekiel 35–38 (including the vision of the "dry bones"), found hidden in pits dug under the floor of a small room built inside the synagogue. In other loci fragments were found of the books of Genesis, Leviticus, and Psalms. Because someone went through great pain-staking efforts to restore this remote place they revealed the truth of the Bible and the faithfulness of God, which is a beautiful piece of our history also.
The truth is that the LORD has been with his people for thousands generation and we as Christians are a part of that heritage. You may have lost your health, your job, your friends, your house, your marriage, and your previous lifestyle, but God can return them to you. He can restore and heal better than before.
Things may be broken, worn-out or just plain lost, but God can and he will restore. He said that he would restore the years that the locust have eaten. Locusts are symbols of destruction beyond repair. You may feel as though in 2012, things were so broken that your life is now beyond repair. However God said he would restore even those hopeless situations in your life. Jesus said he was sent to heal the brokenhearted.
Restoration may take time, effort, and hard work, but when it is done and over, it is beautiful. Wherever God is, there is the possibility of restoration and recovery on the way. Because there is nothing to hard for God. Jeremiah 37:10, "I will restore your health and heal your wounds, said the LORD." Your health includes your finances, your marriage, your children's salvation, your body, your mind and your emotions. Believe him for complete restoration and to give back the years that Satan has stolen and bad decisions have eaten. May your heart be healed of the loss you suffered in 2012.
