Finding a Good Man versus a Fool
Choose a GOOD MAN:
Just recently I taught on the difference between a godly man and a fool. I see so many women looking for a good men, yet they keep making these bad choices. Looks do not determine godliness or intelligence of man or woman. A woman who is to marry well will choose her mate on character not on the way he looks. Jacob chose Rachel on her looks and not on her character only to find out later for certain that God chose Leah for Jacob instead. Leah bore Judah, the one through whom Jesus our Messiah would come, and Levi, the leader of the priestly tribe. It was Leah who was buried in the cave of Machpelah, beside Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah (49:31), while Rachel was buried along the way to Bethlehem (35:19).
Just in case you don't understand what are the character traits of a good man versus a fool they are listed below:
Just in case you don't understand what are the character traits of a good man versus a fool they are listed below:
- A GOOD MAN IS FAITHFUL: A good man is a good friend and is a person who remains a friend even when the going gets tough.
- A GOOD MAN TELLS YOU THE TRUTH AND REBUKES YOU WHEN NECESSARY: There are things which may need to be said that are not easy to say. Just as a true friend is the one who is honest enough to tell us what we need to hear, rather than to flatter us. Our man must be honest enough to tell us what we need to hear, especially when it aligns with the Word of God, and we need to listen to godly advice. Better is open rebuke than love that is concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy (Proverbs 27:5-6). This works both ways. Sometimes the kindest thing a husband can do for his wife is to be honest with her in a kind and thoughtful way.
- A GOOD MAN IS THOUGHTFUL AND TACTFUL: A good man is sensitive to your needs and speaks in such a way that you are encouraged and enriched. His sensitivity is demonstrated in his understanding that gaiety and goodwill is not always appropriate nor appreciated (especially if you are having a bad day) “It matters not only ‘what’ we say, but ‘how,’ ‘when’ and ‘why’ we say it.” He who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, It will be reckoned a curse to him (Proverbs 27:14). A good man is honest, but he knows the appropriate time to share his thoughts.
- A GOOD MAN OFFERS GODLY AND WISE COUNSEL: Those whom we choose as friends should be marked by wisdom and thus have godly counsel to offer. Oil and perfume make the heart glad, So a man’s counsel is sweet to his friend (Proverbs 27:9 and Proverbs 12:10)
- A GOOD MAN IS KIND AND COMPASSIONATE (Proverbs 12:10).
- A GOOD MAN IS HARD-WORKING (PROVERBS 12:11:23-27)
- A GOOD MAN EXERCISES SELF-CONTROL, FORGIVENESS, AND CONTROLS HIS TEMPER (PROVERBS 16:32; 14:29; 16:32; 17:27; 29:1
Now, an example of a fool was Nabal, the husband of Abigail. The story is found in I Samuel 25; Abigail was wise and beautiful while Nabal was harsh and evil. As a wise woman it is important that you avoid partnering with a fool. The foolishness of a man twists his way, and his heart frets against the Lord (Proverbs 19:3) If you partner with a fool then you hate your own life. He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm (13:20). Leave the presence of a fool, Or you will not discern words of knowledge (14:7).
- A FOOL HAS AN UNCONTROLLABLE TEMPER: Do not associate with a man given to anger; Or go with a hot-tempered man, Lest you learn his ways, And find a snare for yourself (22:24-25).
- A FOOL IS EVIL AND ASSOCIATES WITH EVIL (Proverbs 10:23): Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them; For their minds devise violence, And their lips talk of trouble (24:1-2). He who is a partner with a thief hates his own life; He hears the oath but tells nothing (29:24)
- A FOOL LACKS GOOD SENSE AND IS UNFAITHFUL. (Proverbs 10:13-4 )
- A FOOL LACKS SELF CONTROL AND THE ABILITY TO REMAIN CALM (Proverbs 17:27)
- A FOOL IS LAZY AND HAS EVERY EXCUSE FOR NOT WORKING (Proverbs 10:4-5;6:6-10;18:9)
- A FOOL IS WISE IN HIS OWN EYES ( Proverbs 6:7; Proverbs 18:2)
- A FOOL DETEST CORRECTION AND HIS MOUTH IS HIS DESTRUCTION. (Proverbs 3:11-12; Proverbs 10:8; 18:2-6)
Blessings;
