Walk in Love

Paul, the apostle, instructs the church members in Ephesus to walk in love. He encouraged them to be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. - Ephesians 5:2

When you walk in love it is a steady, long, beautiful walk with it ups and downs, valleys and mountains.  The walk is good for your spirit and soul and you feel as though you were meant to be on this journey until the end.

This is the walk that Jesus wants us to have with him. It is indeed a walk not a marathon.  When I was a child, my mother sung the song, "Walk with me Lord." She usually sung it when she was going through great trials. She taught me through the song that whether it is the valley or the mountain, Jesus holds your hand through it all, because He will love me to the end.

Love is two people walking this life together through valleys and mountains with each person going beyond their own human strength to act in unselfish ways and serve the other. A selfish person cannot love well. But, an unselfish person can love beyond their own strength.

When Paul was writing those words in Ephesians, he was being persecuted, and the Lord appeared beside him and encouraged him (Acts 23:11).  This encouragement helped Paul to believe that God loved and had indeed called him. Paul was carrying a heavy burden in his heart and he needed great encouragement. So great of a burden that the risen Christ had to come and appear beside him so Paul could be encouraged to continue the journey.

Many people are bowed down under heavy emotional loads and are weary of life's struggles. How great it is when you have someone to walk with you in love and encourage you.  It is really sweet when it is the person that you love,  and want to spend your life with. A love offering is a sacrifice of yourself to your partner and it is a sweet-smelling aroma. There should be peace more than confusion, forgiveness more than unforgiveness, and unselfishness more than selfishness.  Not only should love be sweet, but it should lift us up and make us better than we were before.

In fact, we are called to love and carry each others burden.  If a person say they love you , but they consistently put you down and bring you discouragement instead of encouragement, it may be time to look deeply and prayerfully at the situation.  Ask yourself is the relationship sweet or bitter? Then pray that God will change your situation.

Prayer:  Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you so much for loving me and giving your Son, Jesus to me.  I accept him as the Lord of my life to walk with and I am grateful that His love for me is long, deep and wide. I know that  He will love until the end.  Thank you that I do not have to walk this life alone.  So walk with me Jesus and take my hand. Strengthen me and make me stronger, better and wiser than I was yesterday.

In Jesus' Name I pray.  Amen!

Blessings;
