Keep your Word

Again, you have heard that our fathers were told, “Do not break your oath,” and “Keep your vows to Adonai (The Lord).” But I tell you not to swear at all - not ‘by heaven,’ because it is God’s throne: not ‘by the earth,’ because it is his footstool; and not ‘by Jerusalem,’ because it is the city of the Great King. And don’t swear by your head, because you can’t make a single hair white or black. Just let your ‘Yes be a simple ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ a simple ‘No’, anything more than this has its origin in evil.  (CJB)

I recently saw a sign that said, "A promise means nothing until it is delivered!" Jesus prohibits flippant or empty oaths. He commands us to keep our word! When we love God we do what he commands. For loving God means obeying his commands and his commands are not burdensome.  People never really forget what you have promised, there will always be something in their heart to keep them from trusting you completely when you don't deliver on your promises.

Therefore, you should keep your promises no matter the cost, because one of Satan's greatest influences in the earth is brokenness/broken promises.  Images of dark, tormented, twisted souls that depict brokenness throughout the whole world is a common messages that our youth see today. When you don't deliver on your promises it creates and confirms the theme of brokenness.  Broken promises create broken relationships, and broken lives. However, keeping your word builds trust, wholeness and confidence with others and is a reflection of love, commitment and completeness. You can change the heart of a person when you change the image you are presenting to them.

Question: Are you presenting truth and wholeness or lies and brokenness? Your actions and deeds may make a difference in a person life (good or bad). Restore confidence and mend relationships by focusing on the promises you made to others in the past.  Take the first step today to find a way to keep your word.  By doing so you will become a man/woman of integrity. You would have let your ‘Yes’ be “Yes’ and your “No’ be ‘No’ as our Lord has commanded us to do so. If you are committed to the One who cannot lie and keep his promises throughout all eternity you will want to do the same for others.

I am so grateful that my Heavenly Father, now and throughout all eternity keeps his promises!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please forgive me for my sins in thought, word or deed.  Help me to keep my promises to You, others and myself that I may dwell in your presence and build a life of love and trust. I want to be that woman (man) of integrity no matter the cost!
In Jesus’ Precious Name I pray, Amen!
