The Heart the Seat of Your Soul

And he answering said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. Luke 10:27 (AKJV)

I spent several years working in medical devices companies that build cardiac devices for patient care. I had to learn all about the physical heart and how it functions. One interesting fact is the heart doesn't need a body. The heart actually can still beat after being removed from the body.  This pulsing occurs because the heart generates its own electrical impulses, which cause it to beat. As long as the heart continues to receive oxygen, it will keep going, even if separated from the rest of the body.

When Jesus commands us to love God with all our heart. He is not speaking of the physical heart, but the non-physical heart that you cannot see or hear.  The term "heart" is never used in the New Testament to refer to the physical organ of man. Oswald Chambers said, "According to the Bible the heart is the center. The center of physical life, the center of mercy, the center of damnation and salvation, the center of God's working and the center of the devil's working, the center from which everything works which holds the human mechanism."

The Bible tells us to guard our hearts.  "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23 KJV); The NLT reads "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."

You are not to just let anyone have your heart. Your heart is precious. It is the center of your life and the seat of your soul. Giving your heart away to the wrong person and many people can leave you heartbroken, confused and may make a dramatic life changing decision that can affect or impact you for the rest of your life. You don't have to love someone just because they love you. Love is a choice and demands respect and honor. For the heart is not merely the seat of affections, it is the center of everything? What we offer on the altar of our heart will tell ultimately through the words of our mouth, and the extremities of our body.

When you love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your strength, you can stand alone with God and keep it moving, no matter want comes your way. You don't need just anybody to pump your heart of life. It is wonderful to be with the person whose heart beats in rhythm with yours. Someone who loves you more than themselves. Someone who can pray with you through the good and the bad. The one who has a heart that beats strong when you need him the most.  Every beat of life can be protected by the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit who breathes life into your heart, spirit and soul. Be confident in who you are and guard (keep your heart safe and a close watch) to prevent brokenness  and destruction in your heart.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I give my heart, soul and spirit to you to protect from evil men and worthless companion. Help me to love freely but yet keep a close watch on my heart and life. Give me the strength to love you and others. Give me wisdom, knowledge and understanding of life issues and right loving. I am going to wait on you to give me guidance on the issues of life.  In Yeshua's (Jesus')  precious and Holy Name. I pray. Amen
