Winning the Battle of Life: Born to be Queen

When I was a little girl my Mother, always told me that a man should treat you like a Queen. That statement save me from allowing men to treat me poorly. However, I finally realized that first I must become a Queen in my own heart before anyone could treat me as such.

I know of a woman name Esther (Hebrew: אֶסְתֵּר, Modern Ester), born Hadassah, who is the eponymous heroine of the Book of Esther. According to the Bible she was a Jewish queen of the Persian king Ahasuerus (traditionally identified with Xerxes I). Her story is the basis for the celebration of Purim in Jewish tradition.

The Purim celebration for the Jewish people this year is March 20, 2011. March 17, Thursday, this week, the Fast of Esther will be celebrated. In the days of Persia Kingdom a woman who was born Jewish was born to the wrong race, wrong faith and the wrong kingdom. She had no rights and her people were taking into captivity when she was a child. Esther was the daughter of a Benjamite, Abihail. “Esther 2:7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.” When Cyrus gave permission for the exiles to return unto Jerusalem she stayed with Mordecai.
Here was this little orphan girl growing up in a kingdom where her people were servants and her only life line was her Cousin (surrogate father) Mordecai.

During the lonely nights of her childhood in those anonymous years when no one knew her name she had no idea she was born to be a Queen.

When she was learning Jewish books such as the Psalms and following the dietary laws of Kashrut, she had no idea she was born to be Queen. When she was taken captive one night, in the middle of the night while her surrogate father watched in horror, she had no idea that she would be chosen to be the Queen of a Persian Kingdom.

Actually, Esther was anointed to be Queen from the day she was born by God (Elohim), Jehovah. But, nothing in her childhood, nothing in her early teens gave her any indication of that being the case.

Sometimes in life our present situation gives us little clue of what our future situations will be like. When you are going through the tough times of life and it seems as though there is one disaster after another, you can feel like you were born to lose. I know that life can come at you like a great wave to tip over everything your worked for and bring it crashing down on top of your family, your job , your hopes and your dreams. But, don’t get discouraged because God promises to be with you through the valleys of our life. The word of God said we who belong to Him shall lack no good thing! You will have a mountaintop experience like no other if you would stay the course and not give up.

Even though we cannot see what lessons can be found in the heart break of dying people and the poverty of lost lives God still has a plan and you may not know this, but your troubles, trials and tribulations could all be your pathway to victory.

Esther could not have known what would happen to her people on the day Haman, the Agagite, cast lots to decide to annihilate her entire race. But she was able to make tough choices because she had to make them when she was younger. When Cyrus gave permission for the exiles to return unto Jerusalem it would have been easier for Esther as a child to go with another relative. But she made the tough choice as a young girl to make the sacrifice and stay with her only parent Mordecai. That choice led her to another captivity by the kings men to be one of the young girls who would be prepare for an entire year to be Queen. She prepared herself and kept her faith. Keeping her faith allowed her to make the ultimate choice between her Kingdom or her God. She chose God and saved her people. That choice allowed millions of Jews to live, she still kept the kingdom, and centuries later our Savior a Jewish child is born to a Jewish woman name Mary. If Esther was not able to make the tough choices you and I may not know the one we call Jesus.

Don’t give up because your pathway may be rough, but instead keep your faith and learn from each lesson and maybe someday someone may just call you a Queen.

For Him Only,
Pastor Patricia
