Discerning the difference between right and almost right

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Proverbs 14:12

Charles Spurgeon , a Particular Baptist preacher, strongly opposed the owning of slaves. He lost support from the Southern Baptists, sales of his sermons dropped to a few, and he received scores of threatening and insulting letters as a consequence. He knew that slavery was just clearly wrong! It was an easy decision. He taught his children the difference between right and wrong.  He also prayed that not only would they know the difference between right and wrong, but they would be able to discern the difference between right and almost right!

Almost right is like the answer to a two part math problem you got the first part right, but the second part is wrong, which still makes the entire answer wrong. Yet, you were almost right. Did you solve the second part based on what you thought was right or did you apply the principle of the equation? How do you discern what is right and almost right? You certainly cannot make the decision based on money and feelings.  Feelings are our emotions, and at times can be deceitful. To be deceived is to have the truth hidden from you. It looks like it is right but it is very wrong. Satan is the master of deception. He will make you think you've been lied to when you have been told the truth and you've been told the truth when you have been lied to. He will make you believe that every truth and promise of God you learned was a lie and the world has the correct answers, when it is the world that has lied and promised you things it will never deliver. Someone once said that the over-arching principle present in all of Satan's attacks toward us is deception.

Here is what I know that God has given us to get it right. His commandments are specific and clear any deviation from them is an almost right. He has told you to always be humble and gentle. Be patient and make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit will never lead you to an almost right. The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God will reveal to you his mysterious plan regarding Christ, his plan for your life when you sincerely pray and do the work of the second part, read his word to find a clear path. If the decision is going to lead you to compromise God's plan or his commandments then it is not the right decision. You do not want an almost right life! There are some decisions that have eternal life consequences.  In the end, we may throw the dice but the Lord determines how they fall. (Proverbs 16:33)

Prayer: "Lord, I know that you love me more than I can ever know. I ask you to watch over my life, give me discernment between right and almost right. Protect me and provide me with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Keep me from hard testing, evil men and worthless companions.  From your hands and your hands only shall I be fed. " In the precious Name of Jesus I pray, Amen!

For His Glory,
Patricia
